From the archives: Recent Retirees

Here are some favorite pieces that were recently retired from my online portfolio. Thought I'd highlight them one more time....

Lord of the Rings

"Lord of the Rings," The New Yorker, September 28, 2009

When the "Walt and El Grupo" illustration was killed, this piece, inspired by the siege of Helm's Deep in "The Two Towers," was commissioned to take its place. "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy screens this week at the MoMA.

Read "Lord and Horde" here.

Thanks, Max!

Walt and El Grupo

"Walt and El Grupo," The New Yorker

This illustration was for Critic's Notebook column in The New Yorker. The article grew in size and was moved to the back of the magazine with the movie reviews. As a result, the illo was killed.

"Walt and El Grupo" is about Disney and his inner circle's working vacation/good will tour of South America.

Job Hunting in a Recession

"Job Hunting in a Recession," American Medical News, September 14, 2009

This piece was done for an American Medical News article called "Job Hunting in a Recession." I was asked to give the classifieds the oppressive feeling of jail. Below the final illustration is an unused sketch and an alternate version for their website.

Thanks, Jennifer!
